(AFX UK Focus) 2006-06-26 17:16 GMT: Porsche predicts record resultsNEW YORK (AFX) - German automaker Porsche AG said it expects to post record results for the fiscal year ending July 31 on an increase in production and strong sales. The company said it expects to sell more than 90,000 vehicles, surpassing its year-ago sales of 88,379. For the first ten months of the year, Porsche's turnover rose 15.3 percent, at 5.96 billion euros ($7.48 billion), compared with the same period a year ago. Sales rose by 14.2 percent over the previous year to 79,564 vehicles, Porsche said. The company credited the increase in sales to strong worldwide demand for its new sports cars. As of May 31, sales of the Porsche 911 were up 21.4 percent to 27,896 vehicles, while sales of the Boxster series rose 87.8 percent to 22,846 vehicles, including 10,883 of the new Cayman S coupe, which was launched on the international market in November 2005. read more. Porsche(R) 911(R) GT3 RS to Make North American DebutATLANTA--May 30, 2006--North America is set to receive its first production version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Beyond its unique livery, the GT3 RS is distinguished from the GT3 on which it's based by broader rear flanks and reduced weight, further distilling the driving experience to that of a racing car, but one which meets all the requirements for street-legal sports cars. This purist's variant of the 911 GT3--a model particularly well-suited for track outings--will arrive in time for spring 2007. Not since the venerable 1973 911 Carrera RS has such a production Porsche been available in this market. The Carrera RS was a special, lightweight 911 produced to homologate the vehicle for racing. That tradition continues with the new 911 GT3 RS, which is modified to serve as the homologation model for a range of worldwide racing series. read more. 1973 Porsche 914 from North AmericaWhat things have gone wrong with the car?Lots of wear and tear.Poorly-repaired previous accident damage.Engine needed full overhaul at about 110,000 miles (on the odometer; more likely at least 200,000 miles more than that on the car from other evidence).Transmission needed full overhaul at about 120,000 miles (indicated).Fuel injection troubles have plagued the car since shortly after the engine rebuild.General comments?Amazing cornering and handling with the stock suspension. Even better with the small modifications that I have made.Simple enough to work on yourself, for the most part.It feels underpowered, but it can still get out of its own way.Not the most reliable car in the world, but endless fun when you get to some windy twisty roads! It gets fair to good fuel mileage. The removable roof panel lets you enjoy topless driving, but is more secure than a canvas roof.Makes a great little race car with just a few modifications!Carries a tremendous amount of stuff for how small it is--two trunks really are better than one! 14th Dec 2005, 11:03 The two trunk comment cannot be overstated: with just me in the car, I can fit all my camping gear, cycling gear and a Cannondale mountainbike (takes 5 minutes to dis-assemble) - yup, that's right you can fit a bike inside the car- (frame and rear wheel in the rear trunk, front wheel up front). All this and still take the roof off and thrash the car down mountain roads- can't think of another 2 seat, immaculately handling sportscar that can make this claim. read more. Porsche Adds Power to Boxster & Boxster SFor Porsche, the Cayman series sports car has been a surprising success. Although it shares 30 percent of its components with the Boxster convertible and 50 percent with 911, the transformation has turned it into what many would argue is Porsches greatest driving machines. The addition of a fixed roof added additional rigidity against chassis flex, when comparing it against the Boxster, while adaptive dampers and a larger, 3.4-liter engine provide extra grunt in the top of the line Cayman S. So good are the improvements that the Cayman S has elevated what looks to merely be a Boxster with a fixed roof, to levels that are capable of nipping at the heels of the 911. But with all the focus on the Cayman S, and its new, less powerful sibling, the regular Cayman, Porsche decided to give the Boxster a bit of attention in the form of a power hike. read more. The impression that solid info can be a problem to locate is inconceivable.
